RIP John Lennon 8 December 1980

December 8th 1980 marked one of the worst days for Beatle lovers when John Lennon was tragically killed. Yoko Ono as a tribute to John reserected, here in Iceland, her Light House idea which we now call the Imagine Peace Tower located on Viðey Island. Every year the tower is lit between John Lennons birthday 9 October and his sad demise on 8 December. Thus last night we felt it nessesary to do our part to remember John by including abit extra to the usual tour. Guests carried a torch to the tower and sent a wish with a floating candle out into the sea. Incredible dynamic skies made the remembrance even more powerful.

To see the northern lights many say you need to leave the light polluted capital city, however occasionally you don't and on these evenings you can get photographs like these. The glass building in most of these photographs is called Harpa, a conference and concert hall designed by Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects and Icelandic Batteriid Architects. Officially completed on the 20 August, Icelands Culture Night.

Northern Lights in Reykjavik City Centre

The Northern Lights on the evening of 31st October were incredible and i was lucky to photograph them. My mother came over for a week and unfortunately we were unable to see them due to the unfavorable weather conditions but on the eve of her flight we had some of the best NL formations this Autumn.

Once again I decided to go to Viðey to photograph the Imagine Peace Tower in the hope to also have the Northern Lights but unfortunately they were very faint, next time. Instead my friend Gulli and I went photographing various other things, still a vary productive night I thought.

Imagine Peace Tower

On the 9th of October every year for the last five years Yoko Ono's Peace Tower is lit in memory of John Lennon. It is a great social event and this evening was made even more perfect with the presence of Northern Lights. Unfortunately I missed the best of the lights photography wise but was able to watch them as I helped ferry passengers from the mainland to Videy where the tower is located. Perfect evening for the occasion.
